Restaurant style Butter Chicken
Butter chicken is a kind of recipe which is signature in almost every Indian and Pakistani restaurant. There are so many different ways to make butter chicken the key ingredient is butter, chicken and the tomato base/curry. My husband isn't a big time fan of this but my kids absolute love this recipe.
Easy Homemade Butter Chicken Recipe
There are some recipes that feel like more than just food, and butter chicken is definitely one of them. It’s rich, creamy, comforting, and packed with the warm, aromatic flavors that make you want to slow down and enjoy every bite. For me, homemade butter chicken is the kind of meal that brings everyone to the table—especially when it’s served with fluffy basmati rice, naan, or fresh roti.
This easy butter chicken recipe is my take on the classic Indian butter chicken, made with tender pieces of chicken simmered in a silky, flavorful tomato-based sauce finished with butter and cream. The combination of warming spices, creamy sauce, and juicy chicken makes this a perfect family dinner recipe and one of those comforting meals you’ll want to make again and again.
What I love most about making butter chicken at home is that you can adjust everything to your liking. Make it mild and creamy for the whole family, or add a little extra chili for a deeper kick. And honestly, it tastes even better the next day when all those delicious flavors have had time to come together!
Can You Freeze Butter Chicken?
Absolutely! Butter chicken freezes really well, which makes it a great make-ahead meal for busy days.
For the best results, let the cooked butter chicken cool completely before transferring it into an airtight, freezer-safe container. I recommend freezing it in individual portions so you can simply thaw and reheat what you need.
You can freeze butter chicken for up to 2–3 months. When you're ready to eat it, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator and gently reheat it on the stovetop. If the sauce becomes a little thick after freezing, add a splash of water, chicken broth, or cream while reheating and stir until smooth.
Tip: If you know you're going to freeze the dish, you can add the cream after thawing and reheating. This can help keep the sauce extra smooth and creamy.
Whether you're making this for a cozy weeknight dinner, a family gathering, or simply craving a restaurant-style Indian meal at home, this homemade butter chicken recipe is one you'll want to keep in your recipe collection.
