About Me
My name is Mehwish Khan — a Pakistani Canadian and internationally trained physician living in Milton, Ontario. A doctor turned health informatics professional turned content creator.
Being born and raised in a Hyderabadi household, I had a strong connection with spices and masalas. My journey as a home cook started in my mom's kitchen, where I learned my basic cooking skills. Memon Markaz in Karachi gave me the opportunity to learn international cooking and baking, and I had the pleasure of learning from some amazing chefs like the late Chef Sarah Riaz.
After I married a foodie husband, I learned the non-Hyderabadi versions of day-to-day recipes from my mother-in-law, who is a wonderful cook herself. So here you will find recipes from three generations — from my grandma's, to my mom's, to mine.
When others read a book, take a nap, or watch a show, I roll up my sleeves to bake a cake or try a newly found recipe. It has always been my favourite pastime.
About the blog
I always wanted to share my passion for cooking and baking, but I could never quite work up the nerve to start. The idea of putting myself in front of the entire virtual world was — and honestly still kind of is — a little terrifying.
In 2019 I began stepping out of my comfort zone, and the lockdowns that followed gave me the space to channel my love for baking and cooking. That is when I launched am_bi_fy, with the vision of preserving my family recipes while making cooking simple and fun for novice cooks — recipes tied to the best memories of my childhood and beyond.
Since then I have been on a mission to develop easy recipes that combine modern techniques with authentic flavours. You'll find this blog a fusion of culture, heritage, and modern cooking: healthy everyday recipes from diverse cuisines, alongside famous Pakistani street food and delicacies. If you love Pakistani, Indian and Continental food — vegetarian or not — I hope this becomes a place you keep coming back to.
Welcome to the table.
