Butter chicken is a kind of recipe which is signature in almost every Indian and Pakistani restaurant. There are so many different ways to make butter chicken the key ingredient is butter, chicken and the tomato base/curry. My husband isn’t a big time fan of this but my kids absolute love this recipe. Its a kind of safe recipe you can find with least amount of errors. I would say its a beginner level recipe so the amature cooks can pull it off pretty nicely with the basic cooking knowledge.
Butter chicken
This recipe is pretty simple to follow. There are three major steps . Start off with marinating chicken then make curry base and at the end cook them together.
Ingredients
For the chicken
- 300 gms Chicken Boneless Breast or thigh
- 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
- 1 tbsp Red chilli powder
- Salt to taste
- ½ cup Oil to pan fry
For the gravy
- 500 gm Tomatoes Roughly Chopped
- 100 gm Onions Roughly Chopped
- 1 tbsp Garlic Roughly Chopped
- 50 gm Cashew
- 1 tsp Kasoori methi
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala/ All spice powder
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder
- 6 tbsp Butter
- ¼ cup 35% Cream
- 2 tbsp White Vinegar
- Salt to taste
Instructions
For Gravy
- In a pan heat some oil then add spoonful of butter, onion and Garlic.
- Once the onions are cooked( they will turn transparent) add tomatoes and cashew, let it cook for few minutes.
- Now add some water, garlic paste, salt, vinegar, sugar, garam masala powder and Kashmiri chili powder.
- Evenly mix it and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes
- Churn the mixture into fine puree once its cold.
For Chicken
- Marinate the chicken with ginger paste, garlic paste, red chilli powder and salt and keep it aside for 15 to 20 minutes
- In a pan heat some oil with some butter then fry the marinated chicken pieces in it.
- After frying chicken add in the gravy in the pan.
- Add butter, cream, and kasoori meethi and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Garnish it with cream and kasoori meethi
- Butter Chicken is ready to be served!
